Peshawar, June 24, 2021 (TDI) — A five-year program launched by the United States Agency of International Aid has been started to aid the Pakistani Government in empowering women. The Women’s Economic Empowerment Activity (WEEA) aims to “promote peaceful communities, increase economic growth, and strengthen global health security capacities,” says USAID Mission Director Julie Koenen.
Thanking the USAID for this impactful partnership, Akbar Ayab Khan, Minister for Local Government from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa says “Women’s empowerment has been one of my government’s top priorities and an essential part of our governance. Our vision is to elevate women’s labor force participation by 45 percent by 2025.”
The program is set to assist 1.25 million women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Punjab in ID card registrations. Along with the Election Commission Pakistan, the WEEA will also assist in increasing female electoral participation by reducing the disparity between male and female voters.
