US Special Representative for Afghanistan gave an Interview to Ariana News

-

Washington, 29 September 2021 (TDI): Ariana News interviewed the US Special Representative on Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, on 27 September. The Doha talks, peace process, government collapse before the deal implementation, economic crisis, the New Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and its recognition, were discussed.

Zalmay Khalilzad stated that the recognition of the new Islamic Emirate Government depends on how the administration got the power, the formation of the inclusive government, implementation of the agreement, respect citizens rights, and their compliance with International Laws.

Regarding the economic crisis, he stated that Afghans don’t have money. In a UNSC meeting, the world pledged 1 billion-plus for aid to Afghanistan in which the US promised 384 Million Dollars. He stated that it was necessary because the war left unemployment and little economic activity. The Covid-19 and the droughts were problems too. So, the world needed to aid them.

Zalmay Khalilzad further stated that the Taliban and their government must ease the way for the world to act. The agreement made with the Deputy Secretary of the UN Humanitarian Affairs was a step. The Afghans require a healthy relationship with the world, the world wants that too but it depends on the Taliban and the inclusive government.
