Vilnius, 13 July 2023 (TDI): The US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, on July 11th in Vilnius, Lithuania.

In their meeting, the Secretary extended his gratitude to Germany. He thanked the state for its considerable support in matters of military, financial, and humanitarian assistance, to Ukraine.

The Secretary further reasserted the United States’ commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He emphasized upon its expansion, through Sweden’s quick membership in the Alliance.

Both the leaders  also talked about the situation in the Western Balkans, and on countering the challenges that the PRC presents. Both discussed their dedication and joint commitment to global peace and security.

Before the Meeting:

Before their meeting, Blinken had expressed his pleasure to be with Foreign Minister Baerbock at the start of the NATO summit. He stated that the summit was a place where the NATO alliance would become strengthened and larger, with Finland and now Sweden about to become its member.

Secretary Blinken further conveyed that NATO would emerge more united against challenges that the alliance is working on together, as well as for the defense of its members and of Ukraine against Russian aggression.

He said that Germany and the United States had remained very close in this effort, and he found it fitting to compare notes with the Foreign Minister at the start of the Summit.

German Foreign Minister expressed her agreement with the Secretary, reiterating NATO’s unity, and the unity between the US and Germany.

She further emphasized the unity of the alliance with Ukraine, saying that they would stand with Ukraine, showing 100% solidarity with the state, for as long as it takes.

She also expressed her gratitude to the United States for leading the way for the allies to come together in Vilnius and the current situation in the European continent.
