US Secretary Blinken call Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar

Washington, 6 April 2024 (TDI): US Secretary Antony Blinken had a candid discussion with Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on 5 April 2024 to discuss the US-Pakistan cooperation on counterterrorism, trade, women empowerment, and more.

Pakistan and the USA had a long bilateral relationship since 1947 based on cooperation and disparities.

Moreover, this was the first time Secretary Blinken called Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar since he took an oath as the new Foreign Minister of Pakistan.

Spokesperson Miller said, “Secretary Blinken spoke today with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to reaffirm our commitment to a strong and prosperous US-Pakistan partnership”.

Foreign Minister Dar said, “Pleased to receive a congratulatory telephone call from the U.S. Secretary Blinken. Discussed key bilateral issues and reaffirmed commitment to work together to promote cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, investment, and counterterrorism. Looking forward to continued collaboration between the two countries”.

Spokesperson Miller said, Secretary Blinken emphasizes their commitment to “robust their partnership” with the US-Pakistan to progress the prosperity of both countries.

Additionally, both counterparts talked about regional matters and global issues. “Including the Gaza crisis, Development in the Red Sea region, and the evolving situation in Afghanistan”.

Furthermore, “Both sides expressed contentment with the current positive trajectory of bilateral relations”.

Lastly, they said, Pakistan met a severe threat from terrorist groups from Afghanistan, such as TTP. Spokesperson Mathew Miller said, “The US didn’t want Afghanistan to allow terrorists to carry out cross-border attacks from its soil”.

According to sources, Pakistan tried to develop its ties with the US for security concerns and to boost economic relations with both countries in terms of goods and services which is $12 billion.

Moreover, sources said, President Biden also wrote a Letter to Prime Minister Sharif to congratulate the new government.  

In addition, they highlight the “enduring partnership” between Pakistan and the USA.

At last, President Biden Said, “We would continue to stand with Pakistan to tackle the regional and global issues”.
