US, Mexico resume high-level economic dialogue

-

Washington, 11 September 2021 (TDI): On Thursday, the United States Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at the re-launch of HLED (the US-Mexico High-Level Economic Dialogue), held in Washington. Kamala Harris reiterated that Mexico is one of the most important economic partners for the United States considering which economic relations must be improved on both sides.

The Vice President emphasized strengthening bilateral relations between both states with the objective to provide a prosperous life to the American and Mexican population. She addressed the importance of a dynamic and integrated commercial relationship with Mexico, which is currently the United States’ largest trading partner in goods, besides a top market for the US agricultural exports. Harris also suggested that improving economic relations shall be deemed a high priority for both nations, given their mutual concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and cyber threats.

The talks were initially launched by Joe Biden in 2013 when he was serving as Vice President under Barack Obama’s administration but came to rest under Donald Trump, whose radical immigration policies jeopardized the United States’ relationship with Mexico.
