US and Kuwait Relations

The US established its diplomatic ties with Kuwait in 1961 when the latter gained its full independence from the UK colonization. Therefore, the US shares a long history of friendship and cooperation with Kuwait.

The cooperation has its roots in shared values, democratic traditions and institutions. Reportedly, in 1990, when Iraq invaded Kuwait, the US military forces and coalition expelled Iraq in 1991.

The US supports Kuwait in its sovereignty, security, and independence as well as its multilateral diplomatic cooperation to build ties between the Gulf countries. According to reports, the US provides military and defense technical assistance to Kuwait from both foreign military sales and commercial sources.

Lastly, the US personnel assist Kuwait military with training, education, readiness, and war fighting with additional advanced technology.
