Islamabad, 18 November 2023 (TDI): Donald Blome, Ambassador of the United States of America to Pakistan, engaged in meetings earlier this week with different leaders of political parties in Pakistan.
According to the readout released by the United States Embassy in Islamabad, US Ambassador Donald A. Blome met with a broad range of Pakistani political actors during his engagements.
The former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousaf Raza Gillani, hosted a gathering where the Ambassador met with representatives of various political parties during his visit to Multan.
The discussion was centered around the political environment in Pakistan, specifically the conduct of free and fair elections and the right of the Pakistani people to choose their future leaders.
Along with that, the strengths of Pakistan-US economic ties, especially in trade and investment, and the development of the US-Pakistan Green Alliance framework were part of the discussions.
Additionally, upon his visit to Multan, Donald Blome visited the tomb of Shah Shams Tabraiz. In 2009–2011, the United States played a vital role in restoring the tomb, preserving its original artwork, and revitalizing the magnificent frescos.
The ambassador also interacted with the students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Multan, and discussed US support for education in Punjab.
Donald Blome visited Lahore on Saturday, where he met with the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, at his residence in Jati Umra.
The former Prime Minister emphasized the importance of relations between Pakistan and America. Both leaders also discussed the political and economic situation of Pakistan, especially the preparations for the general elections.
The US Ambassador and Nawaz Sharif engaged in diverse topics of mutual interest, including trade, the economy, climate change, security, and regional stability.
Nawaz Sharif also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Palestine due to Israeli bombardment and called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

The American Ambassador underscored American priorities with the former Prime Minister and thanked Nawaz Sharif for the pleasant and open discussion during the meeting.
While in Lahore, Ambassador Blome also met with the founder and Patron in Chief of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), Jehangir Tareen, at his residence.
In the meeting, the Ambassador and Jehangir Tareen discussed Pakistan-US relations and economic reforms. They also discussed the general elections and political activities in Pakistan.
The American Ambassador expressed his full determination for the stability of mutual relations between the United States and Pakistan.
