Islamabad, 29 September 2021 (TDI): Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the UN, NY in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) hosted a high-level event on the sidelines of the 76th United Nations General Assembly. The event was based on ‘Uplifting girls and women.
Some of the known panelists like Sharmeela Rassool – UN Women Country Representative for Pakistan and Dr. Sania Nishta – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection joined this event and shared their thoughts on women empowerment.

According to Sharmeela Rassool who is Country Representative UN Women of Pakistan “it will turn out to be the biggest opportunity for the country if it will empower the youth which is 29 of the complete 49% of the women population”.
All the panelists talked about Pakistan’s Realities and Opportunities of Women Economic Empowerment. Dr. Sania Nishtar stated that the Government of Pakistan announced the “50% Plus Benefits” policy in the framework of Ehsaas’ program to empower women.
She further added that under this framework, any policy and program need to accrue at least half of the benefits to women and as a result around three-quarters of this complete Ehsaas’ program’s benefits are devoted to women and girls.
