Washington DC, 22 December 2022 (TDI): The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the United States (US). The trip marks his first visit abroad since Russia began its war against Ukraine 10 months ago.

Zelenskyy visited the White House and held a closed-door meeting with the President of the US, Joe Biden. Additionally, he also met with the US top officials, including Vice President Kamala Harris & Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

It is worth noting that just before his arrival, the US State Secretary, Antony Blinken announced a new $1.8 billion military aid package, including for the first time Patriot surface-to-air missiles.

Meeting with US President

Joe Biden hosted Zelenskyy in the Oval Office for strategy consultations. The US President stated, “The Ukrainian people continue to inspire the world, and I mean that sincerely.”

“They are inspiring the world with their courage and how they have chosen resilience and resolve for their future. The US will help bring about a just peace.” Biden reiterated.

Zelenskyy said that he had wanted to visit sooner and his visit now demonstrates that the situation is under control, because of the US support. He also requested continual assistance in defeating Russia.

Address to Congress

Zelenskyy called the US support vital to Ukraine’s efforts to beat back Russia. He thanked lawmakers and everyday citizens for tens of billions of dollars in military and economic assistance over the last year.

The President assured that the money wasn’t being wasted in Ukraine, saying its soldiers knew perfectly well how to operate complex US weapons systems and planes.

“Against all odds and doom and gloom scenarios, Ukraine didn’t fall. Ukraine is alive and kicking.” The President added.

“The battle is not only for the life, freedom, and security of Ukrainians or any other nation which Russia attempts to conquer. The struggle will define in what world our children and grandchildren will live.” He reiterated.

Zelenskyy received thunderous applause from members of Congress and presented lawmakers with a Ukrainian flag autographed by front-line troops in Bakhmut, Ukraine’s contested Donetsk province.
