UK Prime Minister on AUKUS Partnership

London, 16 September 2021 (TDI): Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, stated that the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States are creating a new trilateral defense alliance to preserve global security and stability. It will also result in the creation of hundreds of high-skilled jobs around the country, advancing leveling-up strategy.

The AUKUS cooperation will fight to safeguard people and promote a peaceful, rules-based international order. The leaders of the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia today agreed on a landmark military and security cooperation that will safeguard and defend their common interests in the Indo-Pacific.

Strengthening the development of cooperative capabilities and technology exchange under the AUKUS alliance, safeguarding their people, and reinforcing common aims. AUKUS will promote greater integration of research, technology, industrial bases, and supply chains connected to security and defense.

They pledge to a shared desire to help Australia in obtaining nuclear-powered submarines for the Royal Australian Navy as the first effort under AUKUS, acknowledging their tradition as maritime democracies. Starting an 18-month trilateral effort to find the best approach to supply this capability. Using experience from the United States and the United Kingdom, and building on the two countries’ submarine projects, an Australian submarine capability will be ready for service as soon as possible.
