UK MP pushes for lifting of travel ban

-

Westminster Hall, June 29, 2021 (TDI) — Pakistan-born UK Member of Parliament, Yasmin Qureshi raised the question of UK travel restrictions of Pakistan in a parliamentary session.
As the Co-Chair All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Pakistan, she also addressed a letter to the British PM signed by 50 other MP’s demanding resumption of flights for citizens of Pakistan and Bangladesh in April.
“Pakistan along with Bangladesh was placed on a red list at the start of April, despite a clear disparity with other nations on the green list, who have a higher infection rate, as well as variants of concern. Myself and other members of APPG members have requested disclosure of the figures behind this decision which we still have not released,” says Yasmin Qureshi.
Yasmin stressed that the short notice ban has caused travelers to be stuck abroad and denies Pakistanis entry to the UK despite the low number of COVID cases.
Claiming that her constituents from Bolton South East are affected by this policy, she also adds, “Can the minister today give me a full answer as to why Pakistan was placed on the red list in the first place and secondly, when will Pakistan be taken out of the red list?”
