London (TDI): The government of the United Kingdom has announced new dates for the introduction of the electronic travel authorization (ETA) scheme, marking a major step forward in its ambitious goal of digitizing the UK border and immigration system.
Additionally, everyone who intends to travel to the UK must obtain authorization beforehand, except British and Irish nationals. This can be done using an ETA or an eVisa.
Moreover, the UK attests that qualified non-Europeans can submit an ETA application beginning on November 27, 2024. This will be required for travel beginning on January 8, 2025.
According to the Commonwealth website, ETAs will be available to eligible Europeans on March 5, 2025, and they must have one for travel beginning on April 2, 2025.

In addition, the government can prevent the exploitation of the immigration system by enabling enhanced security checks before departure to the UK.
Electronic Travel Authorizations (ETAs), which are electronically linked to a traveler’s passport, help to achieve this.
Furthermore, an ETA costs £10 and allows the bearer to enter the UK up to six times over two years or until the expiration of their passport, whichever comes first.
According to the the Commonwealth Gulf Cooperation Council website, travelers need to obtain an ETA before they can enter the UK.
The United States and Australia are among the nations whose border security procedures align with using ETAs.
Seema Malhotra, the Minister of Citizenship and Migration, stated: “Digitalization streamlines the process for the millions of individuals who cross the border annually, including visitors to the UK who are anticipated to spend over £32 billion on our tourism industry this year.”
The UK government has stated that anyone who needs a UK visa for work, study, or residency in the UK would now receive an eVisa instead of paper immigration paperwork that can be misplaced, stolen, or altered.
Digital immigration status checking is another benefit of an eVisa. eVisas enhance people’s experiences by eliminating the need to travel or wait for a physical visa.
The government is asking UK migrants who possess a physical immigration document, such as a biometric residency permit (BRP) or a passport with ink stamps or visa vignette stickers, to immediately open an online account to acquire an eVisa.

Since most BRPs are set to expire on December 31, 2024, BRP holders are urged to take action before their BRP expires.
In addition, by creating an account, individuals can use online services to manage their data, including passport and personal information, and check their rights without jeopardizing their fundamental immigration status
