London, 6 September 2021 (TDI): The UK has been granted the Dialogue Partner status in ASEAN. It is a significant development for London as it will enhance its diplomatic ties with the Southeast Asian bloc.
The benefits of having such a status are high for both continents. The British Government says that this platform will be utilized for collaborating in various domains like trade, climate change, education, and technology. It will allow Britain to formalize its relations with regional countries. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab expressed his optimism by calling it a landmark moment in UK’s relations with the Indo-Pacific region. He said that closer ties with ASEAN nations will create new economic opportunities and promote the exchange of science and technology.
