UAE Foreign Minister meeting with Deputy pm of Thailand

Bangkok, 17 June 2023 (TDI): During his official visit to Bangkok, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed met with Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, on June 16.

The two sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the UAE and Thailand.

They explored means to foster their cooperation across various sectors, with a special focus on economic and investment fields.

Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA)

The meeting underscored the endeavours of the two countries toward reaching a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). They inked a joint statement last May and announced that they would commence relevant talks soon, following the launch of the first UAE-Thai Business Council in February 2023.

UAE investments in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)

this free trade agreement will boost their mutual economic partnership. Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed also engaged with the representatives of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) during the meeting.

They deliberated on the investment opportunities for the UAE in clean energy initiatives in the Eastern Economic Corridor of Thailand. The EEC will focus not only on the development of the three eastern provinces of Thailand but also on the industrial transformational plans of the country.

UAE’s Interest in Fostering Bilateral Relations

The UAE expressed interest in investing in Dawei Deep Sea Port. The Dawei Deep Sea Port and Special Economic Zone is an infrastructure project in Burma. This port provides endless opportunities for Thailand if its untapped potential is effectively explored.

Moreover, the UAE noted the significance of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed demonstrated his country’s keenness to be part of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed praised the strong bilateral ties between the UAE and Thailand. He emphasized the mutual desire to enhance these relations, foster collaborative efforts, and establish a robust partnership that contributes to their shared goal of sustainable development.
