Our hearts go out to those who lost their loved ones, and we stand in solidarity with the injured, wishing them a swift and complete recovery.
According to reports from state media, at least 31 lives were lost when an explosion devastated the Fuyang Barbecue Restaurant in downtown Yinchuan on the eve of a Dragon Boat Festival. The explosion, believed to have been triggered by a leak of liquefied petroleum gas, occurred during the restaurant’s normal operations.
U.S. Mission China is deeply saddened by this tragic incident and expresses its unwavering support to the Chinese government and people during this difficult time. We commend the efforts of local authorities and emergency services in their swift response to the situation and in providing medical treatment to the injured.
As a nation that understands the devastating impact of such incidents, the United States reaffirms its commitment to cooperation and solidarity with China in times of crisis. We stand ready to offer any assistance deemed necessary by the Chinese government to aid in their recovery and investigation efforts.

Following the incident, authorities have detained nine individuals, including the restaurant’s owner, shareholders, and employees. In response, the mayor of the city has declared a month-long period of safety inspections, emphasizing the significant toll of the incident and the valuable lessons learned from it.
