Ashgabat, 23 December 2022 (TDI): The contemporary administrative hub of the Ahal region was announced as a city with the rights of a district and given the name “Arkadag.”

This was announced by the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, G. Mamedova in a resolution.

The announcement was made during a meeting of the government of Turkmenistan on December 21, 2022. The document states that the city of Arkadag will become the new location of the Ahal region’s administrative center.

The Goktepe district of the Ahal region’s 2,000,370 hectares also enters the administrative territory of Arkadag at the same time.

In accordance with the Turkmenistan Law “On the Procedure for Resolving Issues of the Administrative-Territorial Structure of Turkmenistan,” this decision was made.

In this vein, the preferences of residents of the Ahal region and country citizens, petitions of public associations, and the submission of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan were taken into account.

The Gokdepe district of the Ahal region’s new, modern administrative center, is being built on the Chairman of the Milli Gengesh of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s initiative.

It reflects Turkmenistan’s rapid socioeconomic development, while the organization of housing provision reflects our national heritage, spiritual values, and centuries-old rich historical and cultural traditions.
