Ankara, 21 October 2023 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Turkiye, Hakan Fidan, along with other representatives of states will attend the Cairo Peace Summit which is to take place on Saturday in Egypt.
According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye, the Foreign Minister will pay a visit to Egypt to attend the Heads of State and Government Summit that will be held in Cairo on 21 October 2023 to discuss the unfolding situation in Gaza, the future of the Palestinian cause and the peace process.
On the sidelines of the peace conference, the Minister will also also bilateral meetings, the statement read.
The President of Egypt called for a summit to de-escalate the ongoing war in Gaza and for the reopening of the Rafah crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to 2.3 million Palestinians.
Moreover, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Greece, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Italy, and Cyprus are among the countries that will attend a peace conference.

Since war broke out on 7 October after Hamas attacked Israeli targets, 4,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 13,000 injured in less than two weeks as a result of Israeli airstrikes on the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Moreover, Israeli bombardments and airstrikes also seriously damaged hundreds of homes, displacing more than one million Palestinians from Northern Gaza.
Speaking to the reporters, Fidan condemned Israel for its involvement in the blast at a hospital in Gaza and added that he hoped a peace summit in Cairo would yield an agreement to stop Israel’s offensive and allow humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
To find a long-term resolution to the conflict, he added that Turkey was putting forward a guarantee system and that it was prepared to back the Palestinian side. In addition, he urged participation from other regional nations.
