Islamabad, 24 March 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi met Don Pramudwinai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Thailand. Don Pramudwinai was on a visit to Pakistan to attend the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

This was the first-ever visit of the Thai Foreign Minister to Pakistan since he assumed office. The Foreign Minister of Pakistan welcomed him to Pakistan and appreciated the engagement of Thailand with OIC.

The two counterparts noted the 70 years of establishment of diplomatic ties and reviewed the state of bilateral relations along with expressing satisfaction over the trajectory of bilateral collaboration.

Foreign Minister Qureshi on his part highlighted Pakistan’s dedication to forging an all-encompassing relationship with Thailand stemming from a strong political, economic, and cultural partnership.

Along these lines, the Foreign Minister articulated the governmental policies to facilitate religious tourism in the country. He also invited the people of Thailand to visit the Buddhist sites in Pakistan.

The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on varied regional and international issues, including the situation in Afghanistan. In addition, Foreign Minister Qureshi emphasized the necessity for extensive regional strategies for developing a collective response to emerging international challenges.

In the same vein, he also accentuated the significance of ASEAN in Asia-Pacific and the interest of Pakistan in strengthening its engagement with ASEAN. Shah Mahmood Qureshi also apprised the Thai Deputy Prime Minister about human rights violations in IIOJK.

He briefed his counterpart about the illegal demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as well. In this context, the Pakistani Foreign Minister underlined the significance of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

He stated that it was imperative for sustainable peace and stability in South Asia. The two Foreign Ministers also acquiesced to stay in close communication to sustain the impetus in bilateral relations.
