June 29, 2021 – (TDI): The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau had telephonic contact with the President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas. They discussed the latest regional developments in regards to security and politics. The Palestinian President expressed his gratitude towards Canada, for the support and assistance Canada has shown towards the Palestinians, in the times of Covid19. The Canadian PM expressed that he completely believes in human rights, freedom of expression, and democracy. He further reiterated Canada’s aim of bringing stability and peace in the Middle East. Both officials agreed on the importance and necessity of direct negotiations backed by the international community. The need for just and open elections in Palestine was also addressed in the call. Mr. Trudeau also talked about the Canadian Foreign Minister’s planned trip to the Middle East. Both officials consented to mutually strive for peace and resolving humanitarian issues.
