Tehran (TDI): Iran has formally offered to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan as border clashes intensify and tensions threaten region’s stability.
The offer came amid escalating military exchanges along the shared border, with both Islamabad and Kabul accusing each other of aggression and violating sovereignty.
Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said Tehran is ready to facilitate dialogue between the two neighboring countries to prevent further escalation.
In a public statement, he stressed that Iran stands prepared to provide “any assistance necessary” to help the two sides resolve their differences through diplomacy.
Araghchi urged both governments to exercise restraint and engage in constructive talks, emphasizing that disputes between neighboring Muslim countries should be managed through dialogue rather than military confrontation.
Referring to the holy month of Ramadan, the Iranian foreign minister called it an opportunity for reflection, unity, and de-escalation. He underscored the importance of good neighborly relations and said continued fighting would only undermine regional stability at a time when cooperation is urgently needed.

The mediation offer comes as Pakistan and Afghanistan exchange heavy fire along the border, with both sides reporting casualties and accusing the other of initiating attacks.
Islamabad has maintained that its actions are defensive and aimed at militant threats operating from Afghan territory, while Afghan authorities have rejected the claims and described Pakistani strikes as violation of their sovereignty.
Earlier this week, the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, speaking at the Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies, warned that “war in the region is in no one’s interest,” and urged Islamabad and Kabul to avoid escalation and pursue dialogue.
He said shared adversaries of Pakistan and Iran were promoting terrorism and separatism, and emphasized that regional stability depends on cooperation rather than conflict.
Instability along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has immediate implications for Iran, including cross-border militancy, refugee inflows, narcotics trafficking, and disruption of regional trade routes that pass through or near Iranian territory.
