Tbilisi, 12 August 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Georgia, Rustam Soli, held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili.

During the meeting, both diplomats discussed important issues and bilateral cooperation in different fields including trade, economy, and energy. They also discussed the strengthening of legal framework and prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides also stressed the upcoming meeting of the Tajik-Georgian joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic issues in Tbilisi.
An emphasis was made from both sides that this joint intergovernmental commission meeting would open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed issues in developing cooperation in the field of air traffic. Both sides further stressed upon the opening of a direct flight between Tajikistan and Georgia.
Tajikistan-Georgia Relations
In August 1994, diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and Georgia were established. The relations between the two countries have been built upon the principles of mutual trust, friendship, equality, and mutual respect.
The legal basis of the Tajik-Georgian relations includes the Protocol on Establishing Diplomatic Relations and the two inter-agency agreements.
Some of the main imported goods from Georgia to Tajikistan are foodstuff, medicine, wood, electrical equipment, and furniture.
The economic cooperation between the two countries is stated in the joint implementation of the Program of the European Union. This program is aimed at the development of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia.
In 2019, a delegation from the Tajik government also visited Georgia to learn about Georgia’s successful experience in introducing e-governance and public service delivery through a modern electronic system.
In general, both countries have the perspective of further development and strengthening.
