Dushanbe, 7 October 2022 (TDI): The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, hosted Mr. Axel van Trotsenburg, the Director of Operations of the World Bank.
The Vice President of the same bank Anna Bjerde also accompanied him. The meeting was scheduled on 6th October 2022.
The agenda of the meeting was to observe the contemporary issues related to bilateral relations and prospects for mutual collaboration between Tajikistan and the World Bank.
Remarks of Interlocutors
The President of the Republic of Tajikistan publicized deep satisfaction with the extent of bilateral cooperation between the two parties. He also expressed appreciation and gratification to the World Bank for financing more than 110 projects in Tajikistan for various sectors.
The funding of the World Bank in the Republic of Tajikistan prevailed over the period of 29 years. The funding is a total of $2.5 billion in worth.
Axel van Trotzenburg highlighted that Tajikistan holds significant potential in the field of clean and renewable energy. It has the capability to produce and export this energy which will ensure the development of a “green” economy in the country.

The Director also confirmed that the World Bank intends to provide support to Tajikistan. The support is to ensure its contribution to the global climate change agenda.
Both stakeholders discussed the multiplicity of the issues and crises, confronted by Tajikistan during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also concentrated on the impact and threats of the pandemic. The hazards of the epidemic on the economic and social situation of Tajikistan and the modern states also converse.
At the end of the meeting, the representatives exhibited hope for the expansion of a mutually beneficial partnership. The Director assured that the World Bank will continue its contribution to assist the country in the accomplishment of sustainable development goals. Both intended to accelerate this reliable partnership furthermost.
