Tajik Permanent Mission to UN organizes Event on Water Availability

New York, 23 September 2021 (TDI): Tajikistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN organized a high-level meeting. It was with the Permanent Missions of Hungary, Pakistan, Nepal, and Russia. As well as the UN Office of Economic and Social Affairs, the UN Environment Program, the World Meteorological Organization, the UN Institute for Water Resources, and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Program on Hydrology.

The topic of the event was “How changing water availability from ice and snow will impact our societies.” More than 70 representatives of the UNGA and international organizations participated in the event. The impact of climate change, the protection of glaciers from rapid melting. Along with the interconnections between climate and access to water supplies were the key topics of discussion. The event featured two panels. It included a high-level panel and an expert panel.

The event was opened by Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirojiddin Muhriddin. He spoke about the impact of climate change and the importance of the nation’s next initiative. That is President Emomali Rahmon’s declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Glacier Preservation. All representatives praised Tajikistan’s efforts. They also expressed their willingness to support this vital international project.
