Syrian U-18 men's basketball team qualifies for Asian Finals

Damascus, 30 July 2022 (TDI): Syrian men’s under-18 basketball team qualified for the 26th Asian Finals after beating the Iraqi counterpart by 71-59 points.

Al-Fayhaa Sports Hall in Damascus, Syria, for the first time, hosted the U-18 West Bank Asian Basketball Championship. Men’s under-18 teams from Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria took part in the championship.

Moreover, the championship took place from 25 July to 29 July. Preliminary rounds took place during the first three days of the championship. However, on the last day, the semifinals were held between teams Lebanon vs. Iraq and Palestine vs. Syria.

Additionally, the Syrian under-18 men’s team qualified for the finals against Lebanon. The 36th Asian Finals will take place in Tehran, Iran, the next month.

The Ministry of Interior of Syria also announced the qualification of the Syrian team in the final on Twitter.

Furthermore, the head of Syria’s Basketball Game Federation, Tarif Qutrash, said, “This tournament is held for the first time in Syria and we as a Federation have strived to return to hosting tournaments on our lands which will reflect positively on our national teams.”

In addition to this, Qutrash also revealed the date of the West Asian Under-18 Women’s Basketball Championship. On the ninth of next month in Damascus, the women’s championship will take place.

West Asian Football Federation

The West Asian Football Federation or WAFF is a regional association of football. The King of Jordan, Ali Bin Al Hussein founded it in 2000. Moreover, the Asian Football Confederation, or AFC governs the WAFF.

Additionally, it is a non-governmental organization comprising 12 member associations. The headquarters of the WAFF is located in Amman, Jordan.

Syrian Arab Football Association

The Syrian Arab Football Association is the official sponsor of football sport in Syria. It is directly responsible for the Syrian football teams and local clubs participating in the Syrian League.

Additionally, it is one of the oldest football associations in the region. It was established in 1936 in Syria. However, it joined the International Football Association in 1937. Whereas, the Syrian Arab Football Association joined the Asian Football Confederation in 1969.

In addition to this, the Syrian Arab Football Federation organizes local football tournaments while supervising 120 clubs participating in football competitions.
