Damascus, 8 July 2022 (TDI): Minister of Information of Syria, Boutros Al-Hallaq met Bahraini Ambassador, Waheed Mubarak Sayyar to discuss ways to enhance media cooperation.

The meeting between the two sides took place at the Ministry building in Damasus.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Syria, Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, stressed the importance of exchanging experiences in the media field.

The Minister of Information also highlighted the role of collective training in the media.

Moreover, he stressed its positive impact on the improvement of media performances at all levels.

Al-Hallaq further noted the repercussions of the terrorist war that had been waged in the country for more than 11 years. The war had imposed unilateral coercive measures imposed in all sectors, especially the media field.

The two sides also stressed the importance of developing an executive program to activate the memorandum of understanding signed. These include a memorandum of understanding signed between Bahrain News Agency (BNA) and Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) and a memorandum of understanding between Bahrain Information Affairs Authority and the Public Authority for Radio and Television of Syria.

The two countries also reviewed the previously signed memoranda of understanding in the media field.

Ambassador Sayyar affirmed Bahrain’s support for Syria’s unity. The Ambassador further stated his country’s support for the territorial integrity of Syria and refusal to interfere in its internal affairs.

Assistant Minister of Information of Syria, Ahmed Dawa, and the Director of Development Media, Ammar Ghazali, also attended the meeting.

Syria-Bahrain diplomatic relations

Waheed Mubarak Sayyar is the first Ambassador who has been appointed to Syria in more than a decade. The appointment of Bahrain’s Ambassador to Syria shows improvement in Arab countries’ relations with Damascus since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war.

The Ambassador has been appointed by Bahrain’s King as the Kingdom’s “Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Syria”. The embassy of Bahrain in Damascus was reopened in 2018.

Ambassador Sayyar has affirmed Bahrain’s support to Syria in several sectors. Previously this year, the two sides met to discuss cooperation in economics, trade, scientific, health, cultural, transportation, and tourism sectors.
