Swiss Community Celebrates National Day in Islamabad

Islamabad  (TDI): The Swiss community in Pakistan celebrated the 734th National Day at the Swiss Ambassador’s Residence in Islamabad.

The event was hosted by Switzerland’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Georg Steiner, and was attended by Swiss citizens and friends of Switzerland. The event included traditional Swiss food, music, and cultural symbolism.

Ambassador Steiner spoke about Switzerland’s core values, peace, democracy, federalism, and unity in diversity. He recognized the significance of Swiss foreign residents in continuing to maintain a link with their country of origin while positively contributing to life in Pakistan.

He also added,  “This night is a celebration not just of our national day, but of the abiding bonds we share as a community and our common hopes for peace and collaboration.”

The event was restricted to Islamabad-based Swiss residents this year, which was aimed at acknowledging their role in bilateral relations.

Visitors were served traditional Swiss specialties like fondue and raclette, and the venue was decorated with Swiss flags and decorations that symbolize the Alpine country’s tradition.

The guests at the event got a chance to experience Swiss culture. One Swiss resident said, “It’s always nice to be reminded of home.”

Ambassador Steiner also appreciated the embassy officials and members of the Swiss community for cooperating in holding the event, saying that such activities strengthen people-to-people relationships between Pakistan and Switzerland.

Swiss National Day, held each year on August 1st, remembers the creation of the Swiss Confederation in 1291. Traditionally celebrated with fireworks, speeches, and communal events, it is still a cherished emblem of national togetherness for Swiss nationals everywhere.

Pakistan and Switzerland have had more than 60 years of diplomatic ties. The two countries collaborate in trade, humanitarian assistance, vocational training, and development.
