Stockholm, 26 February 2023 (TDI): Sweden has announced a new support package, allocating SEK 520 million in support of Ukraine. It has extended its unceasing support for reconstruction and humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.
The extensive Swedish support package will focus primarily on Ukraine’s energy sector and humanitarian operations. It is part of Sweden’s development assistance budget.
The total amount of 529 SEK is divided into two tranches. SEK 2230 million is allocated to humanitarian operations and the remaining SEK 300 million funds are dedicated to the energy sector.
The Ukraine energy support fund was established by Kadri Simon, European Commissioner for Energy in April 2022.
The energy fund supports Ukraine’s energy sector by financing companies that previously were unable to obtain capital to purchase necessary acquisitions.
The Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Sweden, Johan Forssell stated that Sweden is aiming to provide considerable funds to Ukraine to meet its energy needs.
The Swedish authorities are resolute in their conviction to help re-establish the country. The financial aid will assist Ukrainians in improving their difficult living conditions.

The support will be disbursed among seven accredited organizations: the International Committee of the Red Cross (SEK 60 million), the UN’s Country-based Pooled Fund (SEK 30 million), the Norwegian Refugee Council (SEK 25 million), Save the Children (SEK 30 million), the World Food Program (SEK 35 million), UNHCR (SEK 20 million) and the International Rescue Committee (SEK 20 million).
Sweden’s prioritization of Ukraine is evident in its unwavering financial, political, and military support. It has pledged to stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes.
