Kuala Lumpur, 11 September 2021(TDI): The Embassy of Malaysia in Washington DC congratulated the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, SUHAKAM on its 22nd anniversary on 9th September 2021. They appreciated SUMHAKAM for their constructive and active role in Malaysia. The embassy also acknowledged the facilitating and supporting role for the Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Malaysia.
On 9th September 1999, SUMHAKAM was established under the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act 1999 (Act 597). SUHAKAM played an instrumental role in the development of Malaysia’s National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP). It also has a very constructive role in developing human rights modules for national schools.
Minister of Foreign Affair, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah in his press release appreciated their tireless efforts. He further acknowledged the efforts of SUHAKAM to raise human rights awareness and education in the country.
The Minister affirmed the commitment of the government of Malaysia to strengthen its collaboration with SUHAKAM. They promised to protect and safeguard the interest of their citizen and the country. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also shared the aspiration of Malaysia to be on the Human Rights Council for the term of 2022-2024
