States congratulate the new Prime Minister of Pakistan

Islamabad, 13 April 2022 (TDI): After Shehbaz Sharif took the oath as Pakistan’s 23rd prime minister on April 11, congratulatory letters from heads of state from around the world, including Russia, China, India, Turkey, and UAE began to stream in.

Russia 

On 12th April, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the newly appointed prime minister, saying that he hopes Shehbaz’s activities will “contribute to the further development of Pakistan-Russia cooperation and partner interaction on the Afghan settlement as well as countering international terrorism,” according to a statement released by Russia’s embassy in Pakistan.

China

Chinese government congratulated Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on his election and expressed optimism for a stronger China-Pakistan relationship. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said, “China looks forward to working with the Pakistani side to continue our traditional friendship, deepen all-round cooperation, jointly build the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in a high-quality manner, and build an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era.”

India

On the same Shahbaz Sharif was elected, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on his election as Pakistan’s Prime Minister. He said, “Congratulations to HE Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people.” 

Turkey

In a telephonic discussion, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan expressed his hope that the new changes will benefit Pakistan’s friendly and brotherly people, and that Turkey will continue to cooperate with Pakistan as it has in the past.

UAE

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, both delivered similar messages to Pakistan’s new Prime Minister.
