Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, has extended his congratulations to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over Islamabad’s role in facilitating peace-related diplomatic engagement, including talks linked to the Iran–US ceasefire process.
The two leaders held a warm telephone conversation during which Prime Minister Starmer appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and its role in enabling dialogue between the relevant parties, the Prime Minister Office said in a statement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the UK’s support, noting that Pakistan’s initiative contributed to advancing the ceasefire process and encouraging continued negotiations.
He also acknowledged a joint statement issued by European and other international leaders, including Prime Minister Starmer, endorsing efforts aimed at promoting peace.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in order to create a stable environment conducive to long-term peace and regional stability.
The discussion also covered bilateral relations, with both sides expressing interest in strengthening Pakistan–UK cooperation across multiple sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further said he looked forward to welcoming Prime Minister Starmer to Pakistan in the near future.
