Colombo, 29 September (TDI): Sri Lanka’s Education Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena met with the Ambassador of Japan, Akira Sugiyama.
The two officials focused their discussion on the condition of education amidst the global pandemic. They shed light on ways to improve the standards of education. Their discussion was fruitful as it revolved around providing education to youth in Agriculture, IT, technology, etc.
For nearly 70 years, Sri Lanka and Japan have had close bilateral relations. Diplomatic ties between the two countries were established in 1952. Along with the opening missions in Colombo and Tokyo, their bilateral relations have grown to include donor-recipient, socio-cultural, and maritime cooperation over the years. Before 2008, Japan was Sri Lanka’s primary bilateral contributor and a key partner in the country’s peace process.
