Pakistan becomes the first nation in South Asia to develop a NAP on BHR

-

Islamabad, 29 September 2021 (TDI): Pakistan has become the first nation in South Asia to develop a National Action Plan (NAP) on Business and Human Rights (BHR). In June 2011, the UNHRC approved the United Nations principles on Business & Human rights to address the unfavorable human rights impacts resulting from business activity.

Through the National Action Plan, Pakistan plans to provide a framework for the implementation of the UNGP’s & ensure that the fundamental rights of their citizens are protected against unfavorable human rights. Pakistan also aimed to strengthen its redressal mechanisms to ensure that victims are provided enough remedies where business activity violates human rights.

Finally, Pakistan is also committed to achieving its targets under the Sustainable development goals (SDGs) which also reflect fundamental principles of human rights. UNDP is proud to have supported the development of a national action plan on Business and Human rights.
