Washington D.C (TDI): Abby Finkenauer, the U.S. Department of State’s Special Envoy for Global Youth Issues, would visit Sri Lanka and Nepal from November 12 to 15, 2024.
This visit underscores the United States’ dedication to training young leaders in South Asia, promoting partnership on civic participation, and tackling critical challenges such as youth leadership, cultural preservation, and community resilience.
In Sri Lanka, Special Envoy Finkenauer will observe the effects of the U.S.-Sri Lanka cooperation, witnessing firsthand how initiatives in education, leadership, and civic engagement are empowering young leaders and promoting social and economic development.

The Special Envoy, together with U.S. Ambassador Julie Chung, will interact with the Embassy’s Youth Forum and alumni of the Emerging Leaders Academy, a USAID-supported program that promotes civic engagement and leadership among marginalized populations.
She will engage with the Women in Motion program, supported by the U.S. Embassy, which promotes career pursuits in creative industries for young women.
In addition, she will also visit accomplished female entrepreneurs whose successes exemplify the influence of U.S.-backed skills development initiatives.

In Nepal, Special Envoy Finkenauer will engage with young political leaders and alumni of U.S.-sponsored exchange programs to address problems and opportunities in youth leadership.
She will engage at a discussion with social media influencers to discuss pressing issues such as cyberbullying and misinformation, while also connecting with U.S. Youth Council members to deliberate on foreign policy goals and see their mock election program.
Special Envoy Finkenauer intends to enhance connections with South Asian youth leaders and fortify joint initiatives addressing global youth challenges during this trip.
