Seoul, 9 November 2021 (TDI): The Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs of South Korea, Lee Seong-ho attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Concluding Senior Officials Meeting. South Korea is an active member of APEC and regularly participates in relevant meetings.
The agenda of the virtual meeting was to review the progress of the last year as well as discuss future collaboration. The preparation for the 2021 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and Ministerial Meeting also came under discussion.
APEC has 21 member economies; Australia, Republic of Korea, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Thailand, the Philippines, The Russian Federation, Hong Kong-China, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, and United States of America.
During the meeting, member economies appreciated the success of APEC in ensuring regional collaboration for economic recovery and public health response, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The participants also lauded the achievements of APEC committees like the SOM Steering Committee on ECOTECH and the Committee on Trade and Investment. In addition to that, the Asia-Pacific region’s liberalization of trade and investment was also touched upon; in the virtual meeting.
The Korean Deputy Minister for Economic Affairs welcomed the accomplishments and progress of APEC’s projects. He enunciated that Korea will continue to contribute to projects in APEC for mutual benefit.
Lee Seong-ho also underscored Korea’s contributions to reducing trade restrictions, enabling regional economic integration, the APEC Internet and Digital Economy Roadmap (AIDER), and the APEC Services Competitiveness Roadmap (ASCR) Mid-Term Review (MTR). The meeting served to reaffirm economic cooperation amongst the member states in the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.
