Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with US Vice President JD Vance in Islamabad on Saturday, following the American delegation’s arrival for key negotiations with Iran.
The US side, supported by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner, is in Pakistan for high-level discussions aimed at finding a long-term resolution to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the engagement and praised both delegations for their willingness to pursue dialogue.
He expressed hope that the Islamabad talks would help lay the groundwork for lasting peace in the region.
The prime minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to playing a facilitative role, emphasizing that Islamabad remains ready to support efforts that move both sides toward a sustainable settlement.
PM Shehbaz Sharif was joined in the meeting by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The discussions are being held during a temporary two-week pause in hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The conflict, which began with US-Israeli strikes in late February, had escalated across the Middle East before a ceasefire was brokered on April 8 with Pakistan’s diplomatic involvement.
