Visiting Senior Chinese Diplomat meets Army Chief of Pakistan

Rawalpindi, 30 June 2022 (TDI): Yang Jiechi, Director of Central Committee on Foreign Affairs, China, called on Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, at GHQ, Rawalpindi.

Yang Jiechi is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party China CPC.

The two dignitaries discussed defense collaboration, progress on the China-Pak Economic Corridor, and matters of regional security. All the matters of mutual interest were discussed in detail.

Chief of Army Staff reiterated that Pakistan values China’s role in global and Regional Affairs. It looks forward to enhancing its strategic partnership with China.

Moreover, he highlighted that Pakistan remains committed to cooperating with its International partners for peace and stability in the region.

The visiting dignity thanked General Bajwa for special measures taken for the provision of a safe and secure environment for Chinese personnel and officials working in Pakistan. Additionally, he commended Pakistan’s efforts toward regional stability.

Director Jiechi also assured his role for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.

Chinese Delegation

The Delegation included Director Yang Jiechi accompanied by Vice-minister for Foreign Affairs and Commerce. The Vice-Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency is also a part of the delegation. Moreover, the Deputy Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission NDRC is also accompanying the delegation.

Yang Jiechi as a Director of the Central Commission on Foreign Affairs has a key role in Chinese foreign relations. He served as China’s Foreign Minister from 2007-13 and State Councilor from 2013-17. He is considered an expert in holding key dialogues.

Director Yang Jiechi is on a two-day visit to Pakistan and held meetings with Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, and Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The visit is a part of regular high-level exchanges between both countries. This visit reflects the importance of further deepening the ‘all-weather strategic cooperative partnership’ of Pakistan and China.

Reaffirming mutual support of each other’s main interests, enhancing economic engagement, new avenues for bilateral cooperation, and high-quality development on CPEC were major agendas of the visit.

Last but not the least, coordinating positions on important global and regional issues of mutual interests was also a part of the agenda.
