Dushanbe, 7 June 2022 (TDI): The Government of Tajikistan, organized the second high-level international conference throughout the Water Action Decade under the umbrella of the “Dushanbe Water Process“.

Tajikistan is committed to providing a forum for partnership, policy dialogue, as well as action to organize such events with the support of the United Nations.

The biennial conferences provide useful and timely prospects under the Dushanbe Water Process so as to produce an enabling environment and medium for the advancement of action, partnership, and policy dialogue.

In addition, these conferences facilitate the review of the implementation of the Decade, along with promoting interlinkages with and contributing to other relevant processes.

The First High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, was also held in Dushanbe on 20-21 June in 2018.

Furthermore, Tajikistan actively promotes water issues on the international agendas as an initiator of the most water-related UNGA Resolutions. Along these lines, the Tajik Government convened important international water events.

The events have been organized in collaboration with the UN and other international organizations. They are as follows:

  • The International Fresh Water Forum, 29 August – 1 September 2003, Dushanbe;
  • The International Conference on Regional Cooperation in Trans-Boundary River Basins, 30 May – 1 June 2005, Dushanbe;
  • The International Conference on Water-Related Disasters Reduction, 27-29 June 2008, Dushanbe;
  • The High-Level International Conference on a midterm comprehensive review of the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Life”, 2005-2015, 8-10 June 2010, Dushanbe;
  • The Preparatory conference «Towards the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20): Water cooperation», 19-20 October 2011, Dushanbe;
  • The High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation, 20-21 August 2013, Dushanbe;
  • The High-Level International Conference on the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Life”, 2005-2015, 9-11 June 2015, Dushanbe;
  • The High-Level Symposium on SDG 6 and Targets: Ensuring that No One is Left Behind in Access to Water and Sanitation, 9-10 August 2016, Dushanbe;
  • The High-Level International Conference on International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2018, 20- 22 June 2018, Dushanbe.
  • And the latest one being “the Second High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.”

The Government of Tajikistan is hosting in cooperation with the United Nations and other partners from June 6-9, 2022 a Second High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028.

The conference is entitled “Catalyzing water action and partnership at the local, national, regional and global levels”.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kokhir Rasulzoda along with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Liu Zhenmin co-chaired the conference.
