Tashkent, 12 May 2022 (TDI): People’s Diplomacy Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is underway in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It is being held in a hybrid format and today was the second day of the event.
The theme of the People’s Diplomacy Forum is “Public Diplomacy – Mutual Understanding for the Sake of Development”.
The second plenary session is titled “People’s Diplomacy – an Important Element of Modern Interstate Communication: the Experience of the SCO Member States.”
The agenda of the forum for the second day was to discuss the promotion of people to people ties within SCO countries and the relevance of public diplomacy in the contemporary world.
The breakout session is “the role of parliament and public organizations in consolidating public diplomacy.” It will be moderated by Ravshanbek Alimov, Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Investments, and Tourism.
Bakhtiyor Sayfullayev, the Chairman of the Senate Committee for Youth, Culture, and Sports, Uzbekistan, Svetlana Smirnova, the Chairperson of the Council of Assembly of Peoples’ of Russia, First Deputy Secretary-General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly (Russia), and Zhang Wai, Secretary-General of Chinese SCO Committee on Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation will speak at the event.
In addition, Malika Kadyrkhanova, the Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs and Gender Equality (Uzbekistan), Dilorom Faizieva, the Chairwoman of Legislative Chamber Committee on International Affairs and Interparliamentary Relations (Uzbekistan) and Bobur Bekmurodov, Chairman of “Yuksalish” Nationwide Movement (Uzbekistan) will be participating.
The second breakout session will be moderated by Kabuljon Sabirov, Director of the SCO Center for Public Diplomacy. The speakers for this session include Sergey Sizov, Head of Division of the OSCE Project Coordinator’s Office in Uzbekistan, Abdukhalil Gafurzoda
Director of the SCO Centre for Friendship and Cooperation in Tajikistan and Dr. Athar Zafar,
Head of the SCO Study Centre, Senior Research Fellow, Indian Council of World
Affairs.
Moreover, Natalia Dementeva, the Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan, Zukhra Shidakova, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Assembly of People of Kyrgyzstan, and Farhat Asif, President of the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies &
Chairperson, Pakistan-SCO Friendship Forum (Pakistan) will be participating.
