Saudi Crown Prince receives message from Costa Rica’s President

Saudi Arabia and Costa Rica discussed bilateral relations in Riyadh

Riyadh, 16 August 2022 (TDI): The Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has received a written message from the President of Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves. The Crown Pince, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense received this message on 15 August 2022.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica to Saudi Arabia, Francisco  Chacon Hernandez delivered the message to the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed bin Abdulkarim. Minister Abdulkarim received the message on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal bin Farhan at the ministry’s headquarters.

The two leaders later discussed matters of mutual interest as well as their bilateral relations. They also discussed ways to strengthen relations in many areas.

Saudi Arabi and Costa Rica bilateral relations

Saudi Arabia and Costa Rica’s relations were first established on 7 December 2015 in New York. This was after the Saudi Permanent Representative to the UN, Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Mualami and Costa Rica’s Representative to the UN, Juan Carlos Mendoza Garcia signed an agreement.

Following this, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia have cooperated on many issues and they have also signed many agreements. For example, in 2018, the then Saudi Arabian Minister Abel Al-Jubeir signed a memorandum of understanding with his Costa Rican counterpart Manuel Gonzales Sanz.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and also investment opportunities. Furthermore, they also discussed tourism opportunities in Costa Rica.

Minister Sanz said, “It is an honor for me to visit Saudi Arabia for the first time. We are pleased to have the opportunity to invest in agriculture, tourism, and mutual investment. In my meeting with the minister, we discussed cooperation and what Costa Rica can offer in tourism opportunities.”
