Tehran, 20 August 2022 (TDI): Iran’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Kanaani congratulated the government and the people of Kenya for successfully holding the presidential elections.

He also lauded the role of the Kenyanian government, parties, politicians, ethnic elders, and religious leaders in holding peaceful elections.
The Foreign Minister also described the country’s elections as an example of a successful experience in the African continent.
He also expressed hope that the political process and the new cabinet will address the demands and expectations of the Kenyan people.
Kenya’s Presidential Elections
Kenya held its presidential elections on 9 August 2022 to elect the President, Members of the National Assembly, and Senate.
The Commonwealth Observer group also lauded the country for ensuring a peaceful environment for the elections. The Chairperson of the group, Bruce Golding said, “I wish to commend the people of Kenya for the peaceful and orderly manner in which they exercised their right to vote on 9 August 2022.”
The Presidential elections in Kenya take place every five years. On 15 August, William Ruto was announced as the President-elect of Kenya. He won against his main opponent, Raila Odinga.
The chairman of the electoral commission, Wafula Chebukati, announced the results on 15 August.

Iran and Kenya
Iran and Kenya share bilateral relations and the two countries cooperate on economic issues, trade, tourism, and many more.
Kenya serves as a market for many Iranian products. In 2020, for example, Iran exported products worth $41.7M to Kenya. These products included Asphalt Mixtures, Petroleum Coke, and Asphalt.
Kenya on the other hand exported $15.3M to Iran in the same year. The products also included Tea, Coffee, Jute, and other Textile Fibres.
Furthermore, Iran built an innovation and technology center in Kenya making it Iran’s first project in Africa.
