Saudi Arabia, Oman: Discussion and priorities
During the gathering, they discussed the Yemeni civil war and the steps forward to strengthen economic and investment cooperation. Besides, under the May protests in Oman regarding unemployment and austerity, the countries signed different agreements. All of them related to commerce, culture, transport, among others. In addition, both heads of state agreed upon the establishment of a joint council for further arrangements.
Therefore, to continue speaking on the remaining issues, Prince Mohammed bin Salman will travel to Oman respecting the traditional relations of his state with the Sultanate to “fulfill the aspirations of both nations for a prosperous future”. Considering what Ayham Kamel, head of the MENA team in the Eurasia Group said after the July meeting, “there has been a lot of work behind the scenes to try to build the foundations for something much more meaningful between the Saudis and the Omanis”. So the Sultan of Oman, who recently assumed power, is “learning from the KSA about Gulf affairs,” he said.
Finally, it is important to note that the news came from the official statement of the Royal Court of Oman that mentioned that the Crown Prince, the Deputy Prime Minister, and the Defense Minister of Saudi Arabia will pay a visit to the Sultanate of Oman starting today. It is expected that the Heads of States strengthen their ties, also taking into account the past Gulf Crisis with Lebanon, and future prospects.
