Kigali, 19 August 2022 (TDI): The U-20 Africa Men’s Handball Championship kicks off at BK Arena (formerly Kigali Arena) on Saturday in Rwanda. The competition is scheduled from 20th-27th August 2022. It is a flagship sporting event of the African Handball Confederation.

Groups for the Competition

The participating teams are grouped into two groups. The host Rwanda is in tough Group A alongside Tunisia, Morocco, Angola, and the Central African Republic. While Group B includes Egypt, Algeria, Congo-Brazzaville, and Libya.

Secretary General Pascal Tuyisenge of the Rwanda Handball Federation said, “ I think everything is ready. Our team is ready and the majority of the teams expected to participate in the competition will arrive today we hope that the rest will be on Friday. We will witness an entertaining and successful tournament”.

Rwanda faces the Central African Republic in the opening match from Group A. The national Handball team of the hosts is keen to impress at the U-20 Africa Handball Championship.

The national Handball team head coach Antoine Ntabangayimana says that his team is ready to put up a good show at the U-20 Africa Men Handball Championship.

The group stage of the event is underway from 20th-24th August. After the end of the group stage matches, the best two teams in each group qualify for the next stage. Teams will face each other in knockouts, semi-finals, and the final.

The National Handball Federation President Alfred Twahirwa said that Rwanda is doing everything possible to organize a successful African youth handball Championship.

The Africa Handball Confederation has named Rwanda the host country for two tournaments this year. Rwanda is ready to host Africa Youth Handball Championship 2022 U18 and U20.

The six top countries in the juniors Africa nations Championship will represent Africa during next year’s U-21 World Championship in 2023.
