New York, 6 February 2024 (TDI): Permanent representative of Russia at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Vassily Nebenzia issued a powerful statement at the Security Council briefing and condemned US actions in the Middle East.

Nebenzia criticized the “irresponsible actions” of the US and its allies. He referred to them as against the sovereignty of Iraq and Syria.

Moreover, a representative of Russia has called on the international community to “unequivocally condemns” the actions of the US and its allies in the Middle East. He stressed the need to address these actions in the Middle Eastern region.

Nebenzia’s statement is in response to the massive air strikes conducted by the American Air Force. The strikes occurred on the territory of Iraq and Syria on the night of February 2 to 3.

Under the presidential order of Joe Biden, the US Air Force conducted 85 retaliatory strikes. These strikes employed four F-16 tactical fighters and two B-1B Lancer supersonic strategic bombers.

Nebenzia emphasized that these strikes killed civilians and military personnel and devastated dozens of facilities. He highlighted that the US has once again not only shown its aggressive policy towards the Middle East but also its disregard for the norms of international law.

As Russia condemns US actions in the Middle East, Nebenzia calls for a united front from the international community. This is to discourage any actions that could escalate tensions and negatively impact the security and well-being of the Middle East.
