Romania hosts meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers

Bucharest, 30 November 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Ministers of NATO allies attended a meeting in Bucharest, Romania. The two-day summit started on 29th November and shall end today.

The discussion of the meeting includes the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which is a threat to Euro-Atlantic peace and security.

Press Conference by NATO Secretary General

 

NATO’s Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg held a press conference where he briefed the first day of the meeting. He said that the meeting sends a message of full support for Ukraine. Though NATO is not involved directly in the war, he added, they will continue their support for Ukraine.

He mentioned that allies have pledged to provide additional support packages to Ukraine. The aid includes generators and fuels which will help to overcome the shortage of power supplies. He added that NATO’s political and practical support will always continue.

Secretary Stoltenberg mentioned that they also discussed Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. He added that NATO respects Ukraine’s aspiration for membership.

Lastly, he welcomed the decision of Norway to host the meeting of Foreign ministers next year.

Statement by Foreign Ministers

The statement said Russia’s aggression is causing a lack of basic human services for the Ukrainian people. It added, that the world’s vulnerable nations and peoples are at risk, and it has impacted the world’s food supplies.

The Foreign Ministers expressed solidarity with Poland on the incident of 15th November. They condemned Russia’s brutality toward the civilian population of Ukraine as well as its transgressions and abuses of human rights. Moreover, they also condemned Belarus and all those who actively aid aiding Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine.

They also welcomed Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, and expressed full solidarity with Ukraine. They added that Russia’s illegal annexations would never be recognized.

The statement also mentioned the assistance of the allies for Ukraine to restore the infrastructure and fight against Russian Missiles.

The ministers showed solidarity with Turkiye on the terrible terrorist attack and condemned terrorism in all forms. They also mentioned that they are united and will keep working toward achieving peace, security, and stability throughout the whole Euro-Atlantic region.
