Karachi (TDI): Zakir Qureshi, popularly known as Chef Zakir, passed away in Karachi on April 21, 2025, aged 58. His nephew, Shayan Qureshi, confirmed that Chef Zakir had been battling a prolonged kidney disease and had returned to Karachi a month ago after receiving treatment in the United States.
Born on February 16, 1967, in Karachi, Chef Zakir’s passion for cooking led him to become a household name in Pakistan. He began his culinary journey at the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi and further honed his skills internationally in countries like Dubai, Singapore, South Africa, and Botswana.
His television career commenced in 2005 with a cooking show on Indus TV, and he later became a prominent figure on Masala TV and Hum TV, where he captivated audiences with his expertise in both Pakistani and international cuisine.
Chef Zakir’s contributions extended beyond just television; he was instrumental in elevating Pakistani cuisine on the global stage and inspired countless aspiring chefs.
