Beijing, 2 January 2023 (TDI): According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, recently appointed Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang and the United States’ (US) Secretary of State, Antony Blinken spoke by phone on Sunday about bilateral relations.
According to a statement on the Ministry’s official website, Qin bid farewell to Blinken and recalled his candid, in-depth, and productive consultations with Blinken during his service as the Chinese Ambassador to the United States.
Qin told Blinken that he was looking forward to working closely with the US secretary of state and boosting the advancement of China-US relations. In addition, the two parties exchanged New Year’s greetings during the call, according to the statement.
Since 1949, the relationship between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the United States of America (USA/US) has been complicated by underlying mutual distrust.
The relationship is characterized by close economic ties, which proliferated after 1980, as well as rivalry in the Asia-Pacific region. Earlier, last year tensions escalated between the two countries after the visit of Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
Nancy Patricia Pelosi is an American politician who has been serving as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. She visited Taiwan during her visit to Southeast Asia, stirring tensions between China and the US.
