Islamabad, 10 September 2021 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, welcomed the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Rehman Al-Thani, on 9th September.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and development in Afghanistan. Shah Mahmood stressed the need for pragmatic measures that are required to ensure security, and to prevent renewed clashes from erupting in Afghanistan and the region.

He stated that the top priority is to bring stability to Afghanistan. Pakistan had helped in providing evacuation facilities and humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood also highlighted Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan.

He stressed that the proactive engagement of the international community is highly critical. As in the past, when Afghanistan was left on its fortunes alone, there emerged chaos and instability.

Hence, the same mistakes should not be repeated, said Shah Mahmood.

While exchanging views on bilateral relations, Shah Mahmood pointed out the vision of Imran Khan’s “Naya Pakistan” which aims to maintain peace within and outside of Pakistan’s territory, along with strengthening economic relations. Therefore, Pakistan hopes to enhance bilateral trade relations with Qatar and looking forward to increasing Qatari investment in Pakistan.
