Tehran, 7 July 2022 (TDI): Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian held a joint press conference with Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Tehran.

During their joint press conference, the Iranian Foreign Minister commended the Qatari government for hosting talks between Iran and the European Union (EU) Representative.
The Foreign Minister added that Iran’s determination is reaching a good, strong, and sustainable deal. Also that Iran does not seek any excessive demands.
Abdollahian said that Iran has no demands beyond the Joint Comprehensive Plan for Action (JCPOA). Furthermore, he highlighted that Iran’s entire demands are within the framework of the nuclear deal.
In referring to the Doha talks, Iran’s Foreign Minister said Iran was focused on taking effective guarantees from the US. That is, on any area which could affect Iran’s full economic benefit from the JCPOA.
On the other side, Qatar’s Foreign Minister appreciated Tehran for trusting Qatar to host the talks between the EU Representative and Iran.
Al-Thani also noted that his country supports regional dialogue. Al-Thani further said that “Qatar has always been trying to make use of these talks for reaching a deal that will remove the concerns of all sides”.
The Foreign Minister said that the talks that are underway between Iran and Persian Gulf countries have the possibility of yielding positive results for all.
In addition to this, Foreign Minister Al-Thani believed that prospering relations between regional countries can benefit all regional nations.
Iran-Qatar relations
Iran and Qatar have expanded their relations in recent years. Most importantly, Iran was part of the first countries to recognize the independence of the State of Qatar.
Consequently, one month after independence, the declaration of recognition of the State of Qatar was published. Together with the establishment of relations between the two countries.
Neighborhood and the Islamic religion are significant factors in establishing links with the Iranian people. Especially the Iranian people of the southern regions of Iran and with the Qatari people.
More to this, particularly the Iranians had a distinct role in Qatar’s economic development and reconstruction.
