Tashkent, 27 July 2022 (TDI): The State of Qatar participated in the Tashkent International Conference on Security and Economic Development of Afghanistan on Tuesday.
The conference was held in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent. Official delegations from various countries including special representatives for Afghanistan from a number of countries attended the conference.
Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution, Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani headed the delegation of the State of Qatar.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan highlighted the main objective of the conference which is, to promote stability, security, and post-conflict reconstruction in Afghanistan.
Moreover, the participating countries in the conference also discussed Afghanistan’s economic reconstruction.
Qahtani, in his speech, highlighted the active role of Qatar as an active state in regional and international affairs. The Envoy affirmed the continuation of Qatar’s efforts to achieve security and peace in Afghanistan with the help of the international community.
Moreover, the Envoy reiterated Qatar’s firm position in support of the Afghan people. Qahtani added that Qatar strongly supports ensuring the basic human rights of the Afghan people, especially the rights of women to work and the right of girls to education.
Furthermore, Qahtani also pointed to the importance of avoiding competition or conflict over Afghanistan to avoid past mistakes. He highlighted the importance of finding creative and practical ways to deal with the Afghan caretaker government.
The development of Afghanistan
Additionally, the participating countries also discussed providing immediate humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.
Alongside this, the countries discussed developing an effective global dialogue on acceleration by the new Afghan authorities on the process of fulfilling key international requirements.
In this regard, Qahtani renewed Qatar’s call for the Afghan caretaker government to deal with the aspirations of the international community.
Furthermore, the Special Envoy of Qatar stressed the importance of activating the Doha agreement to combat terrorism in Afghanistan. Qahtani reiterated Qatar’s readiness to hold consultations on the implementation of the Doha agreement.
