Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye in Talks with Hamas on Trump’s Gaza Proposal

Doha (TDI): Qatar said Tuesday that it will host a fresh round of talks with Hamas negotiators, alongside Egyptian and Turkish officials, to discuss US President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan.

The plan, unveiled in Washington, calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours, the group’s disarmament, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. It also envisions a post-war transitional authority headed by President Trump himself.

According to Qatari foreign ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari, Hamas has agreed to review the proposal “responsibly.” He said the talks in Doha would also be attended by the heads of Egyptian and Turkish intelligence. “It is still too early to speak about formal responses, but we are genuinely optimistic. This plan is comprehensive,” Ansari told reporters.

The proposal was formally presented to Hamas by Qatar and Egypt on Monday. Following that, Doha announced its willingness to push forward truce efforts, especially after Israel issued an apology for an earlier airstrike that targeted Hamas figures in the Qatari capital, a move that strained relations.

Ansari added that Qatar had received firm security guarantees from Washington. “The assurances given in Monday’s call between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu were very clear: Qatar will never again be attacked. We are satisfied with these commitments,” he said.

Qatar, along with Egypt and the US, has long played a central role in mediating between Israel and Hamas. The addition of Turkiye to the latest round of negotiations reflects a broader effort to build regional consensus around ending the conflict.
